The Orchestra Pit The Orchestra Pit

October 2005

28th October 2005

The seventeenth Scaledown event featured live performances from:

Keith John Adams - Keith's bouncy and unpredicatable songs are joyous and witty. One time leader of the glorious Zuno Men, his "Sunshine Loft" album was a classic of uncluttered pop - recorded live on a single microphone, in a loft. With a new album, "Pip" and a new 6 track EP just out Keith has plenty of new stuff to play to you.

Mike Cooper - Along with John Martyn and Davey Graham, Mike Cooper was one of the stars of the mid 60's acoustic-folk/blues boom, and like Martyn his career trajectory took a strange turn, as his work started to incorporate elements of free jazz and improvised music - leading to an eclectic series of releases that cover ground between world music, electronica, exotica, improv and roots. Now based in Rome, Mike Cooper's appearances in Britain are a rare delight - don't miss this opportunity to see an always explorative legend of British music, playing national steel guitar and electronics in an intimate setting. A Scaledown scoop!

Raagnagrok - Raagnagrok are a synthesizer and electric sitar duo who produce an ecstatic cosmic raga-drone - psychedelic, hypnotic and transcendental. Easy journey to other planets, from 15 minutes to eternity.

Liz Segal - After a spell fronting acoustic rock band Minnaloushe Lizzie has recently returned to solo performance. Lizzie cuts an original path across acoustic territory and writing in an eclectic style she produces poetic songs of rare depth and imagination. The lyrically rich material is compelling but at the same time melodic, atmospheric and mellow. Lizzie will be playing old favourites from her acclaimed debut CD 'Audience of One' as well as some sublime new material.

Mika Sellens - Electroacoustic and Acousmatic Composer, Sound Artist, and Musician. Mika will be performing one of her pieces 'She Dwells In...' from 2003, constructed from sound recordings made in East London. This piece was originally performed with dance so this will be the first solo UK performance of this work.
